General Responsibilities 

The CFO position requires a seasoned, well-rounded, executive-level leader with a highly developed set of functional management, executive leadership, and EQ skills.  As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the CFO will actively lead, contribute to, and guide the organization’s overall achievement of the annual operating plan as approved by the Board from time to time, as well as the company’s long-term growth strategy.

The successful candidate must have well-documented and demonstrated prior successful public or private company leadership experience in finance, accounting, treasury, capital management, business intelligence, FP&A, capital markets, strategic transaction and tax experience.  Experience orchestrating and coordinating complex, multi-functional cross-organizational resources, and teams to achieve strategic company and client outcomes is a must.   The ideal candidate will have worked in the banking, credit, financial services, or payments industries and managed complex financial relationships.  The candidate must be a player/coach, comfortable operating at both a strategic and day-to-day tactical level, and deal with all matters in an appropriate degree of aggressive, mature gravitas. Comfortable with the notion of transforming all deployable assets – technology, data, capital, human talent, and strategic partner relationships – into performing assets, the CFO will work closely with the CEO to optimize return on assets and grow shareholder value.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities of the CFO include but are not limited to managing all strategic and tactical aspects of planning, budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting, and business intelligence as well as securing of capital partners, and managing strategic processes as required to achieve the approved and targeted operating goal:

  • Effectively staffing, deploying, leading, managing and monitoring the staff, systems and related resources as identified and approved in the Corporate and Finance and Accounting cost center details and operating within or below the expense levels identified in the cost center details unless exceptions or over runs are approved in advance.
  • Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization's mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
  • Train the Finance and Accounting department and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
  • Work with the CEO on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships and the development and negotiation of contracts.
  • Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the CEO in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of client portfolio and service delivery.
  • Assess the benefits and risks of prospective contracts and advise the Executive Team and Board as requested on the financial administration and expected returns of new program design and implementation.
  • Ensure adequate controls are installed across all company departments, and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases, expenditures, and processes pass independent, governmental and/or regulatory audits and fully safeguard all assets of the company.
  • Provide the CEO with an annual operating budget in a timely fashion. Work with the CEO and other executive team members to ensure client portfolio success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and continually improve to the Board’s expectations the management and coordination of all periodic fiscal reporting activities for all departments including organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports and all other periodic reporting.
  • Oversee all purchasing and payroll activity for all staff and companies.
  • Working with other executives, establish and drive the internal business intelligence function (BI) for the company to ensure the timely availability, consistent understanding, and use of the appropriate key portfolio metrics to ensure the company is successful in deploying and managing available capital and achieving its desired financial, regulatory and valuation goals. 
  • Ensure that all relevant reporting and status updates are completed in a timely fashion and communicated to the appropriate parts of the organization. 
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of internal and independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met in a timely fashion.
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules, information, and investor structures.
  • Attend and report to the Board on the company’s financial condition at all meetings as scheduled.
  • Establish, monitor, and ensure the security of all banking and payment activities of the organization including those related to the daily processing of portfolio ACH, debit and other payment systems transactions.
  • Manage and ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs inclusive of optimizing the company’s treasury management needs and opportunities.
  • Oversee the market competitive design and administration and financial reporting of the organization's employee savings and retirement plan.
  • Investigate cost-effective healthcare benefit plans and other benefits which the organization may offer employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
  • Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliations with funders and pension plan requirements, as well as financial statements and cash flow projections for use by Executive management and Board of Directors.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and timely calculations of wage incentives, commissions, and salaries for the staff.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure 1) controls are followed and executed and 2) a disaster recovery plan is in place.
  • Oversee business insurance plans and health care coverage analysis in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds (computers, etc.) assuring all are in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Ensuring and continually improving the timeliness and accuracy of periodic closing statements by month, quarter, and fiscal year.
  • Support and assist in the development, launch of new strategic initiative(s).
  • Implementing appropriate training, both skill, functional and leadership, appropriate for the role and responsibility of every member of the Finance and Accounting teams.
  • Normalizing and standardizing compensation structures and titles for a fully functioning Finance and Accounting staff.
  • Aggressively and broadly drive a common vision of the future for our company within the Finance and Accounting organization.
  • Increase the sense of urgency and passion within the key leadership of the Finance and Accounting organization.
  • Hold every individual in the Finance and Accounting organization directly accountable for timely, quantifiable results which directly align with the company strategy, growth, and operating goals.
  • In collaboration with other members of the Executive Leadership Team, oversee and ensure best outcomes for the Company facilities and insurance portfolios.

Experience and Education

  • 8-10 years executive level experience in banking, fintech, financial services, payments or credit sectors
  • At least 8-10 years of prior direct CFO responsibility
  • Capital markets experience, including all forms of strategic transactions
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Masters preferred
  • CPA or CMA
