Description
Responsible for all bookkeeping and accounting matters of the Municipal Light Plant (MLP), an independently managed town department. Manage general accounting, accounting ledgers, payroll, bank balances, accounts payable, jobbing, inventory, and all accounting functions of the MLP. Reviews and ensures bills/invoices are accurate and paid in a timely manner. Works under the direct supervision of the Office Manager or General Manager. Works closely with the General Foreman regarding billing for jobs and payroll. Provides monthly and annual financial statements.
Requirements
- Responsible for general and cost accounting processes performed in a timely, accurate manner utilizing NISC iVUE financial and service software.
- Requires significant interaction with the general manager, office manager, auditing firm, town treasurer, town accountant, and our energy supply providers.
- Responsible for the performance of monthly and annual accounting analysis and reconciliation for review by the Manager and the Board of Commissioners’
- Responsible for monthly entries into the general ledger of cash receipts, cash disbursements, customer sales, billing jobs, allocation and distribute payroll expenses to appropriate GL codes, depreciation, and purchased power expenses
- Accounts Payable. Includes paying invoices, posting to G/L, and preparing warrants.
- Ensure accuracy of work order process to include analyzing daily payroll sheets and jobbing sheets for distribution to appropriate accounts.
- Responsible for working collaboratively with the General Foreman to ensure accuracy of payroll and jobbing billing/sales for projects.
- Maintain daily sales journal.
- Process customer deposits in G/L, return deposits to customers, and maintain deposit journal.
- Responsible for Inventory to include maintaining receipts and disbursements of materials; updating inventory prices; printing a monthly inventory part list.
- Responsible for monthly preparation of financial statements and General Ledger Summary.
- Calculate and remit monthly payment for state sales tax.
- May be required to perform duties/functions of lesser or greater responsibility as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Five years’ experience with bookkeeping principles, practices, and methods.
- Experience using NISC iVUE financial and service software or equivalent.
- Considerable knowledge of office practices, procedures, and the operations of standard office equipment and machines.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
- Computer literate, including substantial knowledge of spreadsheet, database, & accounting software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with town officials, employees, and the public.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems.
- Ability to work well under pressure with critical deadlines.
