Description
Phelps is seeking mid-level insurance coverage associates to join its third-party insurance practice team to handle litigation involving all lines of third-party coverage and advocacy. These positions involve filing and defending lawsuits to include all aspects of lawsuit management: attending depositions, court appearances, mediations and trials. For those who would prefer no involvement in litigation, we also seek a mid-level associate who can find a home at Phelps in an advisory role that supports our domestic and London clients with policy interpretation, conducting legal research, preparing coverage position letters and opinions, involvement in policy wording proposals, and advising on risk transfer.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Three to five years of Texas insurance coverage experience, ideally working on Commercial General Liability, Professional Liability, and/or Commercial Auto policies
- Strong legal knowledge on third-party insurance issues such as the Monroe extrinsic evidence exception
- Excellent legal writing and research skills, for example, the ability to write a winning MSJ
- Experience in federal and state courts
- Experience in negotiation, including mediations
- Experience either defending personal injury claims in Texas courts or acting as monitoring counsel for insurers for such claims
- Enjoys working among collaborative and supportive team members and has strong communication and interpersonal skills
Phelps offers competitive salary and benefits, a flexible work-from-home policy, and a formal mentoring program. We enjoy regular happy hours and other social team-building activities.
