Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Reinsurance Accountant to join our Finance team at a Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance company. This position is responsible for the accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of reinsurance-related financial data. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal controls, while supporting the overall financial integrity of the organization’s reinsurance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and reconcile reinsurance general ledger accounts, including ceded premiums, losses, commissions, and recoverables.
Prepare and process reinsurance settlements, statements of account, and cash transactions with reinsurers.
Monitor reinsurance treaties and facultative agreements to ensure compliance with terms and accurate financial reporting.
Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
Collaborate with internal departments (Claims, Underwriting, Actuarial) to validate reinsurance data.
Prepare detailed reinsurance schedules and reports for internal management, auditors, and regulators.
Support the annual audit and statutory reporting process by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
Assist in automating reinsurance accounting processes and improving reporting efficiencies.
Stay updated on regulatory and industry changes related to reinsurance accounting and reporting.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2–5 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting, preferably within a P&C insurance company.
Strong understanding of reinsurance principles, including treaty and facultative reinsurance.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday, or other insurance ERP systems).
Familiarity with NAIC statutory accounting principles (SAP) and GAAP.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or progress toward CPA designation.
Experience with reinsurance administration systems (e.g., SICS, SAP FS-RI, or equivalent).
Experience working with Schedule F or other regulatory filings.
