Why This Role Matters
As an Underwriter within Loan Operations, you play a critical role in supporting the lending process by reviewing and analyzing loan applications to ensure sound credit decisions. You will serve as a resource to frontline staff and indirect lending teams, ensuring loans are underwritten accurately and in accordance with UKFCU policies, while also maintaining exceptional member service and regulatory compliance.
What You’ll Do
Core Responsibilities
Evaluate credit applications for creditworthiness and repayment ability by reviewing credit reports, verifying debts, analyzing income, and assessing collateral
Make lending decisions by approving, denying, or countering loan applications in a timely and documented manner
Support Retail Staff and Indirect Lending Processors by explaining loan decisions, reviewing credit files, and communicating updates and stipulations to dealerships
Assist with cross-selling lending products by identifying optimal loan solutions for members based on their needs and financial profile
Maintain and update member records to reflect current loan data and application status
Promote UKFCU products and services by responding to inquiries and educating members about options
Work to find ways to strategize and improve our Indirect Lending program based on application and credit insights to ensure we present the best options and stay competitive in our markets we serve.
Protect member and organizational data by adhering to confidentiality standards and sharing information only on a business-need basis
Resolve issues by identifying root causes, determining effective solutions, and communicating resolutions clearly to stakeholders
Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Stay current with lending trends and credit union best practices by attending training, reviewing industry publications, and participating in professional networks
Contribute to team success by supporting corporate goals and collaborating with colleagues on shared objectives
Qualifications
Who You Are
Experience & Education
2–5 years of similar or related experience preferred
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required calculating ratios and evaluating credit risk
Skills & Strengths
High attention to detail in underwriting analysis and documentation
Strong interpersonal communication for working with staff, dealerships, and members
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret credit data and draw sound conclusions
Self-motivated with the ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines
Effective in working collaboratively and resolving member and internal inquiries
Proficient with standard office technology and systems (ten-key, PC, keyboarding)

Work Environment
You’ll primarily work indoors in a comfortable, climate-controlled office setting. The noise level is typically moderate, ensuring a focused yet dynamic work environment. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed to support an inclusive workplace.
This position allows for an optional hybrid work arrangement which includes a combination of both in-office and remote work arrangements. (Maximum of two days remote, three days in-office). To be eligible for the program, employees must complete a minimum of 90 days of continuous, regular employment, be in good standing, and submit a formal hybrid work application prior to being eligible for hybrid work, pending supervisor approval. Work schedules will be established by the employee's supervisor according to business needs. Working locations and schedules may be altered at management discretion.
