American Eagle Financial Credit Union

Company Overview

Company History

The Credit Union was founded in January 1935 by Harry C. Smith, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's Employment Manager, and 14 fellow employees. These individuals worked hard to bring East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union to Pratt & Whitney to serve the credit needs of its employees. The Great Depression allowed credit unions like EHAFCU to prosper by providing secure alternatives to banks, since many banks failed under the economic hardship of the times. As the Credit Union began offering savings and loans to PWA employees, membership grew, and so did the range of products and services.

In 1996, East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union changed its name to American Eagle Federal Credit Union to reflect a broadened field of membership and expanded branch network. In July 2006, the Credit Union was approved for a community charter to serve persons who live, work, worship, attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Hartford County, Middlesex County, or Tolland County, Connecticut. On December 31, 2014, the name changed from American Eagle Federal Credit Union to American Eagle Financial Credit Union. This subtle change is the result of the conversion from a federal-charter to a state-charter. The Credit Union now welcomes the individuals and businesses of New Haven County in Connecticut into our expanded field of membership.
