Company Profile

Rio Grande Credit Union
Company Overview
Rio Grande Credit Union is a full-service financial institution offering savings, lending, checking and payment solutions.
As a credit union, Rio Grande is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative dedicated to improving its members' lives and helping people's dreams come true. Credit unions are the only democratically-controlled financial institutions in the U.S. Members elect a volunteer board of directors to oversee the credit union. In contrast, banks are for-profit entities, run by paid board directors, with all profits benefitting bank shareholders.
Because Rio Grande isn't focused on making a profit, we're able to offer low rates on loans and credit cards, as well as higher earnings on savings - giving back more to members.
Additionally, credit unions educate members about money matters. We provide resources, such as in-branch financial advisors, online and print newsletters, educational materials, seminars and community involvement, to help members and nonmembers alike make informed financial decisions.
Our purpose is to help members' dreams come true by providing ways to help them save and manage their finances. It's part of our DNA of "people helping people."
Company History
Rio Grande Credit Union was started by City of Albuquerque employees in 1953. Since that time, we have merged with San Ignacio Credit Union and the Albuquerque VA Federal Credit Union and New Mexico Central Credit Union. In addition to these fine organizations, we also serve employees, volunteers, residents and members of numerous companies, nonprofit organizations and neighborhood associations.
