The University of Hawai`i Federal Credit Union (UHFCU) is one of the State of Hawai`i's leading financial cooperatives with over $555 million dollars in assets and more than 29,000 members.
Company History
Our Roots & Growth
Founded in 1955 by a group of faculty members at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa, we are a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned and operated by our members. In keeping with our philosophy of "people helping people," we offer a wide range of financial products and services with the highest level of service directed primarily to the University of Hawai`i community.
1955 - 10 UH colleagues spearheaded the Charter that created UHFCU.
1967 - Approved to extend membership to employees of UH organizations.
1991- Surpassed $100 million in assets; Reached 12,313 members.
1994 - Able to accept students of the UH system as members.
2001 - Surpassed $200 million in assets; Reached 20,851 members.
2007 - Surpassed $300 million in assets; Reached 22,855 members.
2008 - We began partnering with Professor Michael Cheang of the University of Hawai`i School of Family and Consumer Science and Kuhio Elementary School in educating our youth about the importance of savings.
2009 - Surpassed $400 million in assets; Reached 23,865 members.
2010 - Extended our hours of operations. On Fridays, we're now open to 6 p.m. On Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to l p.m. We also surpassed $500 million in assets; Reached 24,099 members.
2011 - Opened our third branch at the UH Manoa Campus Center.
2012 - Opened our fourth branch at the UH West Oahu campus.
Board of Directors
UHFCU is governed by a Board of Directors that establishes and reviews policy. The Directors are credit union members who are elected by the membership and are volunteers who serve without pay.
